Mr. Magate Phala
Qualifications: Dip. Labour Law – Univ Limpopo, Adv Certificate Labour Law, PostGraduate Labour Law – UJ LLB-UNISA (Pending) Mr Magate Phala is a Founding Director of the firm and He is a seasoned specialist in Labour Law with more than 12 years’ experience in Employment Law.
Mr Phala also held various Managerial and specialised positions in the field of Industrial Relations both in Government and private Sectors where he represented employers at the CCMA and various Bargaining Councils. He has previously served as a Legal Officer for Africa Miners and Allied Workers’ Union where he represented union members in disciplinary hearings, arbitrations and the Labour Courts. Mr Phala held a position as an Industrial Relations Manager at Eskom Holdings SOC Limited, South Africa’s state owned electricity company and he was responsible for overseeing three divisions at its Mpumalanga Region for a period of Seven Years. Mr Phala is a highly regarded Chairperson and Initiator (Prosecutor) of Disciplinary and Grievance Hearings.
Mr Phala has developed many training material and conducted various Industrial Relations trainings for Management, Union Shopstewards and Employees. Mr Phala regularly chairs and facilitates various Labour Law Seminars and Conferences. In February 2015, Mr Phala successfully facilitated and chaired Annual Shopsteward Africa Conference hosted by Intelligence Transfer Centre and attended by delegates from across Africa. Mr Phala is also a renowned author of Labour Law articles and has written many articles on various aspects of labour law, ranging from unfair labour practices, dismissal, dispute resolution and strike law. some of his articles have been published on www.labourguide.co.za, www.polity.org.za, www.thegremlin.co.za, www.paym.co.za and he has been commended for his excellent work by many academics and Labour Law experts.
